insert something whitty about missionary work here
Hello!
How are my wonderful followers? I mean family and friends....!!! How art thou in the world of Babylon? I didn't realize just how removed missionaries are from 'worldly' stuff but still in the world. It's crazy!! I love it though!
My dad has called me to repentance in the fact that I need to tell yall about my area and the people I am working with. I really have intended to but I keep getting distracted with telling you other stuff. So... we will start with the wheather. It is primarily cloudy. All the time. But lately we have been having sunny spots throughout the day or days where it is mainly clear and mostly sunny. But mostly its cloudy. We have had some rain which is great! I am in Grants Pass and I love it. It is about the size of Provo/Orem but less populated. Sis. Kennedy and I cover a wide area. Just one ward but it is spread out. Sometimes when we go tracting we walk quite the distance in between houses. But we also have residential areas with neighborhoods as well. Its varried but fantastic! So in my district we have me and sis. Kennedy, the only sisters, Elder Cooper Aka District leader and his companion Elder Ludlow, Elder Gowen and Elder Henrie Aka Zone Leaders and Elder Tanner and Elder Aragon. We also have two sets of Senior couples, the Coxs' and the Oversons'. They are all great! And our Stake pres. is super missionary minded and he loves us all! They all know I'm a greeny but they love me any way! My zone and my district are actually one in the same because we are kinda segregated out in Grants pass but they are all great so it's cool. So in the mission before my group got here there were 15 sisters and there were 12 of us coming in so most of the sisters were training. It is great though because I truly beleive that each one of them was prepared to be a trainer and that each of us newbies got the correct trainer!
Ok....people we are working with.....oh wait first I wanna tell a funny story. Sis. kennedy and I were playing word association and then I got sidetracked on explaining to her what Percy Jackson is and what a Demi God is. So I was explaining to her how it is some one who is half god half man. And she goes "Oh... Like Jesus." I just love that she is so missionary minded that She didn't even think of Herculeas or the Greeks. I laughed so hard. But it is so true. I love her so much!!! Ok. So I think I may have mentioned Chennan before but I want to tell you more about her. She is a single mother of four children. One is out of the house but she still has four in her house because she took in this kid who had a bad home situation. She has lyme disease and she is super sick and has seazuires. She also gets so much anti stuff from her old church because she is investigating ours. They came over and tried to do an exercizm. Lots of crazy stuff. But she is so stalwart! She has so much faith in the Lord and knows that this is what she needs to do! She is getting baptized on the 23 of this month. Her kids love church and we are thinking they will get baptized as well but because of their sports schedules we have not been able to sit down with them. But they are all so well mannered and so kind. They are such an amazing family!!
And there is this kid named Brandon. He is friends with Keirsten, one of the young women in the ward. The youth were having a temple trip and were told to invite their friends. Chennan's kids and also Brandon was invited. Only Brandon was able to come. sis. Kennedy and I were invited so that we could teach the non members while the rest were in the temple. We met at the church and asked Keirsten's mom if Brandon wanted to take the lessons. She said that he had said not at this time. Then we asked, does he know that we are going to be teaching today? She said she didn't know. Then we asked if he knew he couldn't go in with the rest of them and she didn't know. So It was interesting starting out but we met him and had the lesson. The bishop decided that we should always teach the lessons in the temple foyer because it is inevitable to feel the spirit! No joke. it was so good! We taught about temples, eternal families, the book of mormon and a little about Priesthood. Then we said our closing prayer, the others were not done yet and we are just chatting then Brandon says...'Do you have any more to teach me?" so we taught him more! And we are going to start the lessons and teaching him at Keirsten's house. He is such an intent listener. He stares you down like he can see your soul. He is also a very deep thinker. He is amazing!
Oh and we went tracting the other day and had such a sereal experience. One guy that we knocked on his door opened it and we were talking to him. We were talking about the Book of Mormon and he was really listening. And we asked him if he wanted to hear more and he said yes! It was something that you see in the movies or read about in the ensign. It was awesome. We are going to go back this week and talk to him. He is so willing to learn!
Oh and I want to tell you about Lucy! She is 75 and went to her daughters baptism and said she wanted to be baptized. The Elders who baptized her daughter gave us her information because she is in our ward. We tried to call her but she never answered. We tried getting her address but the Elders gave us the wrong one. But we were able to find a trailor park with her trailor number and they had told us it had a lot of birdhouses in front and it did so we knocked and it was not her. So we called her daughter, got the correct address and went and saw her. It took forever to find her but she is excited to be baptized!! I thought it was crazy how the trailer looked like hers but wasn't! It was pretty funny though. She is such a spit fire. If we say something that she doesn't beleive she lets us know that she disagrees but she is willing to beleive when we teach with the scriptures. She is amazing and I love how fiesty she is. She was telling us how she got married in slacks! I love her! And the lady we take with us to our appointments is 84 and is so spunky! She rides her 3 wheeled bike to our appointments. Its so fantastic!!! I love Lucy so much!!! She is getting baptized in July because that is when her Grandson is coming out and she wants him to baptize her.
Oh and I want to let you know real quick about Rita and Larry. Larry is a convert of about six months and he was an interni-gator. But he is so solid now. He loves helping us with missionary work and he feeds us all the time. He called us the other day and said "Are you girls ok?" We were like...'Yeah." and he goes "Ok...I just wanted to make sure you are not in the ghetto." He is always checking in on us. And Rita keeps him in line. She is always making us cookies and giving us hugs so we feel loved. She was baptized when she was little but then was retaught the lessons and reactivated. They are both on fire. They are awesome!!!
I also wanted to tell you about Ms. Hartford (tracting story) and Bridgett but I am out of time. Remind me next week! I love you all! Missionary work is the best! And remember, missionary work is done better by members and missionaries working together. Pray that you can share the gospel through your example and your words!
I love you all so much!!!!
