Dear all!
I have lots to tell you. So
first I will tell you about my companions. Sis. Conley. She is so witty.
She keeps me in line. She is awesomeness personified. She loves being a
missionary so much its ridiculous. She corrects my grammar. She is the
funnest person to tease around with. She is constantly striving to
improve. She is such an example to me. She raised goats. She is from
Nevada City California. No one has ever heard of it except the people
from there. She has all sisters and one brother. She loves her dog. Up
until about a week ago her face book picture was her dog. When she
showed me her family pictures the first one she showed me was her dog.
She really, really loves her dog. And she loves this gospel with all her
heart. Sis. Slater is just about as sweet as they come...to use a mom
phrase. She is so Christ like. She is humble, patient, diligent,
charitable....she just has it all. She is new new new new but she is
learning so quickly. She is always willing and never complains about me
pushing her into the deep end. She jumps in with both feet and is so
chill. I love her to death and she gives amazing hugs and she is the
short one. We have the same hair cut. Also for our first district
meeting here she forgot her name tag so I let her borrow mine and we
convinced our zone leaders and a few other missionaries that we were
sisters and were so amazed that President put us together. It was
hilarious. She is from St. George UT and has three brothers. And two
sisters. She is the third and is the first in her family to go on a
mission. She likes motorcycles and snakes but is about as girly and
stylish as they come. They are both super easy going and we all get
along really well. Like, really, really well. We have decided that we
always want to be in a trio. They are literally the best. Conley is also
a visa waiter for Brazil. I love them both. Is that enough info on
them?
Fun stories from not this last week but the week before that I forgot to tell....
1.
We are teaching this man who in a middle of the lesson told me that I
had a speech impediment and then when he came to church a few days
latter I bore my testimony in sacrament and he said it had magically
disappeared. Also when we were on exchanges I was talking to this guy,
it was dark and we were about 30 feet from him and he asked if I was
drunk. Moral of the story...listen to my fathers advice and enunciate my
words....yep. I think I cured my speech impediment.
2. We were talking to the wife of one of our investigators about
how her week was and she made the comment that she was like a "mouse on
fire." We really liked that saying and now have been saying it non-stop.
3. I have developed the habit of saying 'Thanks Boss." when someone
does something super epic for me and I want to thank them. And I said
that to Sis. Conley and she replied..."Emplooooyeee." and I thought it
was funny. And I always say 'Thanks Mom" to her because she is like my
mother and keeps me out of trouble.
Highlights from this week:
Monday the 2nd: We had p-day. That is always a highlight for us and they go so quickly.
Tuesday
the 3rd: I went on exchanges. So the sister training leader who is over
the zone I am in needed to do exchanges with my sisters ( I am the
training leader over a different zone.) so I was with her companion. We
decorated a tree for some members and we helped this other lady figure
out how to email and we taught this woman who has an amazing story about
the plan of salvation. It was a pretty good day. Great quote I got from
that sister...."We set goals to show our faith and we follow up on our
goals to count our blessings."
Wednesday the 4th: We had zone conference. This meant I got to see
President and also Sis. Marble because her zone came and joined ours.
(Sis. Marble was one of the sisters that I trained.) We learned about
how to have higher expectaions and not to put limits on God because he
doesn't have them. Also that was the first day that we got trained on
how to use face book. Also it was Sis. Conley's birthday so Slater and I
made sure that everyone knew and she got lots of nice things told to
her and it was great.
Thursday: Sis. Conley set a goal of faith to invite someone to
baptism and she did so on the doorstep and we are excited to follow up
and go teach this girl more about the gospel.
Friday: It
started snowing and all the missionaries had to park their cars. I
scoffed at that because it wasn't even that bad. But by the afternoon it
was coming down pretty good and I understood. So all in all we got
about 3-4 inches. And they had a snow day. Also. No one in Oregon knows
how to drive in the snow because this is weird for them. People keep
saying... I have lived here for 15 years and have never seen it stay
this long. I never expected for Oregon to look like UT. My poor St.
George companion is very cold. Also we committed Rick to baptism. He is
awesome.
Saturday: We were supposed to go to Winston for an exchange which
is an hour and a half away but because of weather we didn't. So we
walked around all day in the cold. Fun fact for you...if you have two
awesome companions then you can't possibly stay in a bad mood because of
the temperature. They are so much fun.
Sunday: It was a beautiful finish to this wonderful week. We had
investigators come to church, we had wonderful spirit filled meetings
and wonderful lessons. We had our car privileges reinstated because the
sun came out and we just love being missionaries. It is the greatest
thing ever.
Tomorrow is Slater's birthday and Sis. Conley and I are making her
do a scavenger hunt today because tomorrow we will be on exchanges in
Winston.
So something that I really want to
share is an insight I had while studying this week. I was reading in
chapter 8 in 1 Nephi and I love reading about Lehi's dream. It makes me
think of so many people as I read the different various ways to get to
the tree of life. I love the thought that as missionaries we get to
share the iron rod with everyone. It is their choice as to whether or
not they grab on but we get to show it to them. I do have to admitt that
it is heart breaking to watch them turn it down but oh how sweet is our
joy when someone says yes. I feel like Lehi, as he exhorts his sons
with all the feeling of a tender parents as I talk to people about the
gospel. Agency is a big deal. We are all able and capable of
excercising it. I am always amazed at how when we keep the commandments
we can then exercise more agency and when we disobey, our choices are
limited or restricted. I know that God is watching over us and wants us
to grab hold of the iron rod, to be on the pathway that leads to his
love and his presence. I love being a missionary with all my heart its
ridiculous. I have never been so happy and so thrilled with where I am
at in life. I feel so spoiled to be here. God is good and he loves you
so much. Turn to him.
I love you all so much!
